Key School of Dance NEW Dress Code
Tiny Toes Ballet ages 2.5-6
- Leotard – any color
- Ballet skirt- any color
- all in one skirt and a leotard – any color
- tights- pink or black ( Pink will be used for performances)
- bare legs are allowed for the warmer months
- Hair – up out of face in a headband, ponytail, or bun
- Shoes- Ballet shoes in pink, skin tone, black or white (girls will wear pink shoes for performances)
- Boys – solid color t-shirt -any color
- black shorts, or stretchy pant, sweatpants
Ballet levels Beginning , Intermediate, and Advanced
Ballet Class Attire
- Leotard = Dancers can wear any color or printed leotard
- Pink, Black, or skin tone ballet tights (Body Wrapper tights have a variety of skin tone tights)
- Ballet skirt = any color or print , pull on , wrap, above the knees
- Ballet shoes = Pink Ballet shoes or skin color
- optional
- Bottoms- dance shorts , cappri, or leggings (no inappropriate words or distracting textures or prints.
- Warm ups- leg warmers, tight fitted dance sweaters or wrap,
- no loose clothing
- hair must be up in a bun or other secure updo ( if short it need to be pulled back) EVERY CLASS
Ballet dancers will be evaluated in the beginning of the semester and again at the end of the semester to see if they have achieved the requirements to move onto the next level. Evaluations will be given through an audition process in front of a panel of judges. Evaluations will be done through a ballet class setting . Judges will score students on ballet technique, artistry, ability to understand and pick up combinations, strength, grace, flexibility, and stage presence.
color according to level –These classes are color coded to signify various levels and technical abilities. These colors are for teacher purposes only to place dancers during evaluations.
- Beginning ballet 1 = Lavender
- Beginning ballet 2= Blue
- Intermediate ballet 3= Green
- Intermediate ballet 4= Burgundy
Jazz , Lyrical, Contemporary
- Leotard = any color
- Tights- Black, Pink, Flesh tone
- Ballet Skirts= any color
- Dance shorts = BLACK
- Dance Pants ( capri, leggings, jazz pants) = BLACK
- Dance Tops= any solid color , tight fitted, to the waist/hips
- No BRA Tops
- No Loose tops
- Shoe
- Jazz = jazz shoes black or tan
- Lyrical= jazz shoes / ballet shoes black or tan
- Contemporary= Ballet shoes, jazz shoes, contemp/modern shoes, bare feet
Hip-Hop
- street clothes or dance attire ( clothes you can move in)
- No bra tops, no booty shorts, no inappropriate clothing
- shoes= tennis shoes, sneakers, dance shoes
- No flip flops or sandals or high heels
Tumbling Basics
- Leotard any color or print
- Shorts , leggings, capri,
- bare feet, ballet shoes, jazz shoes, gymnastics shoes, contemporary socks ( these socks are made for dance with grips on the soles)
- NO LOOSE or baggy clothing. Nothing that will get in the way of proper spotting of the instructor or will fall up to show belly or chest. Noting that will get wrapped up when tumbling or obscure vision.
- HAIR must be up out of face so not to obscure vision or get caught or tangled while tumbling.
Tap
- Dance wear such as leotard, tights, shorts ,skirts
- Street wear such as comfortable clothing that allows for movement
- Tap shoes – mary jane, oxford, or slip on are fine (heels/ character for more advanced tap dancers)
- socks are strongly suggested to be worn in side tap shoes
- hair can be what ever is comfortable for the dancer as long as it is not distracting.
*A special note to all dancers. please wear layers .There are times that dancers will go upside down in dance class. Tops can and will Fall up. Wear tight fitted tops, layer with leotards, camisoles, bra tops etc. Class are co-Ed.
